Yesterday I was tinkering with my 72, 9.5 Johnson (9R72M). I noticed it wasnt spitting water the way it should. I droped the lower unit and found that someone had replace the water tube with a piece of copper tubing. And then the put it back together, bent the tube in the prosses. So I have been looking for this tube. The water tube Assy. # 0379157. Anyone know where I can find one? Or can I just replace the copper tube? Thanks

Patrick

Ok, I have the water tube and water pump kit on the way. Looking at the head gasket, it looks like it got hot at one time. It seems ok, but im just wondering if I should change it? I dont want it to blow out on the water. Any sugestions?

The water tube in my 84 6hp is a thin walled copper tube btt the top is flared to fit in a grommet and the bottom is cut at an angle to fit easily into the grommet on the water pump. It also has a slight double bend so that it does not touch the inside of the leg,

Your has "push nut", what ever that is, at the top but it is a separate part. It has a pronounced double bend.

Look at the parts diagram on "http://epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=e"

The tube that I took out has no push nut. Just a copper tube. Im trying to find the correct replacement tube.

The water tube is, was and will be replaced with a copper tube. It is part number 379157. The push nut will be found after you disassemble the motor, there is no practical way to reinsert the tube without taking the powerhead off.

Thanks ezeke, I have the water tube, push nut and water pump kit comming.
Another question, by looking at the head gasket. It looks like the motor has been over heated. Should I replace the head gasket? I havent really ran it that much. But so far seems to run pretty good. What do you all think.

Oh, yes. That motor has been run hot. It needs a head gasket and probably the exhaust cover gaskets as well.
