72'/73' Johnson 85 HP interchangeability

Hi,<br /><br /> I currently have a 1977 Johnson 85 OB. I might be able to get a 1972 or 1973 Johnson 85 OB parts motor. How interchangeable are the parts for these 2 motors?<br /><br /> Thanks, Al

0 on the 72. If your 77 is a 20" the complete powerhead will interchange but not the crank, block, rods or pistons. If you have a 25" 1977 or any 1978 or later, the bolt pattern on the base is different. <br /><br />Good luck!
