Working through my electrical issues, waiting on an after market trigger for the timer base. 99.9% sure that's why I'm not getting spark.

Anyway, in looking through everything else I noticed the gear select switch in the controls is shot. Fine, I can use a 3 way switch until I can get another set of controls. But I noticed that no matter what combination of purple/green/and blue wires I touch together the prop always stays engaged and turns forward. when they are all disconnected it should be in reverse. I don't hear any clicks from the solenoid either. Is this something I should look into before getting this motor fired up? (in my back yard with earmuffs and/or a trashcan)

limited experience, There are only a few experts left . my understanding is the default to forward. enigine has to be running to shift. if getting no power to lower unit it defaults to forward, as a safety measure to get you in . power to one wire is neutral the other reverse there is a conbination. Joe Reeves or OBJ should be around, and can help you.

With the key on you should have 12v on the purple. When in Fwd gear, no power is applied to any wire. Blue is reverse and green is neutral. Motor must be running and type C oil in the lower unit or else it will always stay in fwd grear.

For reverse, power must be applied to both solinoids. Cranking speed is usually enough to shift engine to neutral.
