Hi, spent 1 mnth replacing all LU seals, interior wiring harness, rectifier($3 at radio shack). Currently and prior to repairs, when I try to test charging and I put either probe near motor or battery while running, meter goes nuts. Tach has never worked either and now at roughly 2-3000rpm, it jumps from 0-4000 and back. All this said, I took it out for the 1st time sat and ran and went like a cut cat. Very happy, BUT, why is there this erratic behavior on test meter?

Put volt meter on 12VDC scale on battery, motor off. Note reading. Start motor on muffs. note reading. Rev motor to about 1500RPM, not reading. Post back results.

cant read meter when running.goes all over the place, motor off 12.7 vdc. I have proven it is charging after install of new rectifier. prior to new one, same erratic reading, meter wont steady out when running

It's a problem with your meter. I have several "inexpensive" meters and they perform the same way as you are describing. There is some kind of electrical interference produced by the ignition system (I'm presuming) that makes the meters go crazy. I have a more advanced meter and it works well around the motors.

thank you Moody Blue and all responders, I had suspected this also but the fact it was just bought last week thru O'rielly's auto parts. I specifically past up walmart just for this reason(low quality), any suggested brand meter I should get, thanks.
