I recently was gifted a 71 silverline comoro. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to raise and lower prop. And I don't see a trim switch.

Raise and lowering the outdrive is more dependent on the type of drive you have. What type of motor (make) is it?

I dunno' if Mercruiser used the Buick motor or not, but OMC did.

Your drive is defined by the maker of the leg, not the engine. Do you know what make the stern drive is? They put the tilt switch in different places too. OMC was usually a toggle switch on the dash.

if its a Buick motor, its an OMC

it would be the 225 cubic inch odd-fire Kaiser/Jeep V6 back in 1971 (the 231 didnt come around until Buick bought the V6 back from Kaiser Jeep in 1974)

there should be both a Tilt switch and a trim switch. the tilt operates just the leg and is used for trailering.

the trim operates the small hydraulic unit under the front of the motor which moves the whole motor/drive/leg assembly

I don't see neither trim or tilt switch

Possible that the OMC doesn't have trim. It was optional with the Stringer.

On my Comoro the tilt and trim were the toggles like the one left of the ignition in this photo.

That's an electric shift Stringer. The remote (throttle) has a red lever to run up the RPM in neutral, and then the throttle controller. Tilt is a separate toggle switch somewhere. Do you have any unused "holes" in the dash? Maybe it was removed?

The tilt motor is way at the back of the engine, port / passenger side. Might check to see if the wires are in tact.

Trim was different on the Stringers. If you have a big jackscrew on the front engine mounts (with a motor on it), then you should have a toggle for the trim somewhere too. But some of the Stringers didn't have that option, so there'll just be the engine mounts.

The only empty hole on my Dash looks like a cigarette lighter

Well that's certainly odd.

Any wires capped off under the dash? // There's no other way to do this on the Stringer: the remote doesn't have a switch for the tilt. It's a separate switch at the helm somewhere (unless for some weird reason it's in the stern - which I suppose is possible).

Otherwise, you have to track the wires from the tilt motor.

So I found the tilt switch. Now my issue is how to start it with out having it in the water.

I don't see it on the trunion cap on in your photo, but perhaps on the other side is a hose connector?

If not, some of them had a flush kit installed like this photo.

if neither of those two are on the drive, then Scott's right.

Hey guys what’s up. Apologies to revive an old thread, but there is a method to my madness. Just joined the forum, found the site from searching the web about the boat I just picked up. And just so happens I stumbled upon this thread. I now own this exact boat.

My name is Angelo, I work with the guy that had the boat. I am a heavy equipment/ diesel mechanic and I am very mechanically inclined, so I will be saving and restoring this silverline.

To answer a few questions, the out drive is in fact an OMC, the motor is a carbureted v6, and being that it is 1971 like you guys said, it will be the Kaiser Jeep 225.

Also I found what I believe to be the trim switch, it was removed by someone and just left lying on the floor.

The boat is in really good shape for the condition. The hour meter reads 391 hours , which is very low for how old it is , the hull does not have any scratches or dents , the transom is in great shape both inside and out, all the bezels/ rails/ cleats etc are all there and still shiny/ no pitting. The glass is all perfect. The seats are all present and none of the upholstery is ripped , just needs a good cleaning.

The only thing that really needs attention is the floor needs to be redone, and a few of the floor beams (what the technical term?) need to be cut out and replaced, also I know it would probably be wise to replace the bellows if I can find one. This one seems ok but it’s been in the sun for so many years.

Also the trailer seems to be the original trailer as it is also a 1971. I will be going through the trailer as well and making it mint. That’s easy peasy stuff.

Any and all tips and advice I will gladly take from you guys. And moving forward, if any of you guys or other users have engine/ mechanical/ electrical trouble I will surely contribute.

I can only post this one pic. It says the others are too large. What is a good image hosting site you guys use so I can post on here?
