71 rude timing

I got my motor to fire over and attewmpt to run with a auto coil and condensor wanted to check the timing. the book say the timing marks are on the flywheel and the flywheel gaurd. Only problem is mine doesn't have a gaurd When I got this boat it never had one someone removed and never put back.

What hp is your engine? I might be able to look it up for you.

It is a 60 hp and I have the book for it. But how do I set the tiomming with out a timing mark on the motor as mine is suppose to have a gaurd plate that i s missing
