'71 Rude 40, No securing bolts to transom?

Virtually every outboard that I have seen has had some sort of bolts that secure the engine to the transom. Not this one though. There arent even holes to stick bolts in. I would think that the 40 would have enough side to side motion during turns to pull it off the transom. Doesnt look like the transom clamps are up to the job.

Some of those old, giant 50hp V-4's had screw clamps in the late 50s. And they weighed almost twice what your 40hp weighs.<br />But, apparently going for a swim at WOT doesn't really hurt those old V-4's. <br />Story <br />Drill and tap the back of the clamps so you can thread in bolts if you want to do that. It would be a good idea anyway if you were playing with your X dimension much.
