hey y'all

go back to june 13 to see where this started, but J.B. diagnosed my problem (starter) almost perfectly - i had go get a new wiring harness (omc $55) - ouch. anyway, now i have a problem w/the starter overheating after 2-3 attempted starts (5-10 seconds on starter). the engine hasn't started but once (w/starting fluid) and ran for about 15 seconds before i reduced the throttle and it cut off. it is also trying to start immeadiately after i quit trying to start the engine (let off starter and one or two cylinders appear to fire). is it common for the starter to get to hot to start???? if anyone can help, let me know the best way to go about getting this beast running.

thanks,

mason

Starters do get hot sometimes. If your battery is less than fully charged and or old and can't provide a full (near)11 volts or so while cranking it will put undue stress on the starter motor and cause it to get hot. Also if the starter motor is going bad it will pull more amps than it is supposed to, turn slower than it should and get hot.
