Hello guys, couple questions..
do in need to lightly grease the cam lobes in the distributor that the points felt rides on? Also...
The contacts in the distributor had some brown looking wheel grease on it or the rotor button... should I grease the rotor button or contacts?
Lastly, is it ok to just use my marine grease for the grease zert to the shaft or is it critical to use a higher speed grease?
Explanation.. I rebuilt distributor last year. Now I'm rebuilding carbs(second time). And while I'm waiting on parts I'm giving everything a thorough cleaning and inspection.

Explanation,
I am going to buff the cam lobes with a cotton wheel and compound to clean it up and hopefully without removing any material, and save the pad on the points a little bit.
Thanks guys.20230626_221316.jpg20230626_221502.jpg

Clean the rotor cam gently, just to get rid of dirt at the surface.
Put a very thin coat of grease at the cam surface and clean the rotor button, contact terminals for the high tension wires, no grease for them.
The distributor pully is spinning with the same speed as the flywheel soo no need of high speed grease, just regular ball bearing grease.
Push in new grease in the grease fitting at the distributor shaft housing until you see new grease pouring out from the shaft housing ends.

That is exactly what I was needing! Thank you for your response. Will reinstall tonight. I am going to apply a drop of grease on the plastic housings that the rotating tower sits in, as well as the seat of the distributor cap. It will help to keep out moisture since it has no gasket or o ring. Just a little. Thanks again all
