Looking at buying a shop rebuilt 25 johnson. I have owned other smaller outboards (johnson/evinrude) that were newer than this one. Are parts hard to find for this old of a model and are there any common problems (i.e. clutch dogs going bad)I would want to know about?
Thanks,
Lee

Common, consumable parts are still commonly available from a number of sources at very good prices. Finding junkyard parts for non-wearing items is little trouble though.
Some, more infrequently replaced wearing parts are getting difficult to get. For example, pistons and rings. Which leads me to ask, what exactly did they rebuild anyway? NOS (New, Old Stock) pistons and rings can still be found - is this what they used?
Still, I don't think you'll ever find a lighter 25hp. They seem to have more clutch dog problems then most, but that can be prevented simply by shifting properly. Clutch dogs are still available.
