This is my sister's boat and it's sat for about 5 yrs in their garage. They pulled it out yesterday and we ran a decarb on it. It was still smoking after the 3rd time, should I keep going until the smoke is gone?

Also, I want to run a compression test on this boat, but it's been a few years since I've run one and thus I've forgotten the details. Do I just pull all 3 plugs, ground them out and then run the test while lifting the idle lever all the way up? ...am I forgetting something??

All I did was dump the old gas, hook up a small tank with the decarb gas mixture, sprayed some carb cleaner, hook up on muffs and this thing fired right up. No miss, no hesitation and it fired every time.

She kind of wanting to sell, so we're trying to go through and make certain it's in good order. So if there is anything else, let me know. Also any idea what these things are worth? The boat is a 1978 15' Invader in fair condition, sitting on a nice trailer.

Thanks for any input....

Re: 70's Evinrude 70HP outboard

I know all 3 cylinders should be within 10% of each other if good, but any idea of what an ideal compression would be for this motor?

I have a manual for my XP150, I'll see if it lists this motor by chance as one of them covered a bunch of different models, just can't recall.

Thanks again...
