Mid 70's Merc 50 isn't enough information to offer advice. Got a serial number?

No I don't. My grandfather has the motor 2 hours south. I'll try to get him out there to get it. I believe it's a 73 and has the the cable controls right now.

Let's say it's possible. What would something like that cost? Can you modify a newer tiller handle or does it have to be oem. Trying to figure if this is going to be worth the trouble if possible.

While it looks clean, there is no way to tell how many hours are on the motor, 40 would be an optimistic estimate on thier part.

If you can find the parts to convert your current motor on eBay it may be affordable, but they aren't always easy to find or cheap.

I'd opt for the newer one though, and work the price down a little.

Ya I'm hoping to get an idea of what handle will fit on my 50. Ya the newer one looks clean... They could of painted it.. Never know with craigslist. Would have to get that price down to consider buying it. I already have 4K rapped up in my Longtail mudmotor And not certain that I want to sell it right now in case running an outboard with Jack plate doesn't work out for me.

I'll start calling outboard shops to see if this is possible and try to get an estimate

Ya not looking to spend that kind of money on a tiller conversion. The craigslist ad I posted with the tiller 50 is a 70's model and I've seen handles in eBay that look like that for 1-200 bucks. Still need to make sure if I can get this done before I start spending money

just talked to a local reputible outboard guy and he said ill probably spend 500 bucks to convert it. He said if the motor is in good shape thats all the motor is worth. he suggested to get something newer already converted. thanks for the help. so with that being said ill be looking for a decent 40-60 hp tiller motor. if any ideas where to start looking besides craigslist im all ears. im located in se wisconsin. thanks
