hey everyone i have a question. i just put my boat on the trailer right out of the lake. the trim is all the way up but it wont go down at all. i turned the screw on starboard side it lowered down. i hit the trip it will go up fine but will not go down at all unless i turn the screw to lower it. is there a fill hole for fluid? and if there is would that be my problem? i would think that if it can raise up it would have enough fluid but i dont know. any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you. oh its a 84 j70tlcrd.

Can you hear the electric motor running or humming while hitting the trim down button?

most likely a relay. motor failures tend to be in both directions. low fluid fails to lift. Three most likely suspects are bad relay, bad switch, bad connector.

Check your wiring out of the controller (assuming your trim switch is in the handle) with a test light when pushing the " down button see if you have power, if you do light will light, if not wont, Id try it on the known circut first that works, to confirm that it IS power coming out NOT ground. If it IS a Ground switch then you'll need to find battery power etc. Near key switch. If you have power at the switch - the trim tilt switch then go to the back of the boat and check for power at the motor both directions. If you dont have power there, you may need to check wiring or relays - to motor. Usually you can follow color back to motor for which side your working on. trim tilt motors can either switch polarity or use a second contact in the motor. Process of elimination. Otherwise the Seloc site sells manuals.
