70hp Johnson 1975

Looking to add a tach to my boat. The grey wire is already at the control box so it's easy to do it. Just need some info on exactly what type of tach to buy. (what does it have to be??) I know there's a bunch out there and I want to get a cheap used one but need to know what to ask for.

Welcome!<br /><br />If you want it to be accurate and work properly, stick with the E/J brand. They have several styles to choose from.

Are you saying E as in Evinrude and J as in Johnson? If so do I hjust ask for a 3 cylinder tach up to 7000rpm and they'll know what I want?

Yep, you got it! There is also a digital tach if you really want to be accurate.<br /><br />The standard needle tach will work fine.
