707HF Chrysle Outboard will not fire.

I have done a lot of work to this motor trying to get ready for some good fishing and other boating activities. I have replaced a failed starter. Removed the LU to replace seals and oil. Cleaned and serviced distrubitor and ajusted points to .014 of an inch. Replaced a bad ignition switch. Replace spark plugs but not the plug wires.

Turn the key on and I have 12v to terminal strip. 12v on blue wire (ignition to CD module). Low voltage to black/white to distrubitor when rotating the fly wheel (11.2v) All with a good ground. No spark, not running.

How can I determine the cause or faulty part. Is it the ignition coil, distrubitor, or CD module. I need a little bit more detailed instruction than the online seloc online service manual has givin me. Any help or guidance is much appreciated. If there is any info that I am missing, please feel free to ask. I will answer any questions to better help.

The Motorola module needs two sources of power. The blue wire powers the electronics and the red wire charges the capacitors. The red wire is connected to the red terminal on the strip and has power whether the ignition is on or off. That is why it will spark when connected if it has been disconnected for a period of time. The long white wire in this group is the tachometer signal. Unless you have a tach, it is not used.

I don't have my schematics within easy reach, but I believe the Grey wire goes to the positive coil terminal and the short black wire goes to the coil negative terminal

A separate black ground wire attaches from the coil negative to the ground on the distributor mount. Without this wire, nothing will work. The distributor also has a separate short black ground that connects the distributor body to the same ground on the mount. Since the grease inside the mount insulates the distributor, this wire is also important for correct operation.
The long white/black wire from the CD box is the signal wire and should connect to the distributor points terminal.

Since you have voltage, your ignition switch is probably hooked up correctly but checking could not hurt. Blue wire at the switch supplies power to the CD box and should be attached to the "I" terminal while red is attached to the "B" terminal. The "I" terminal only receives power when the switch is in start or run position. Sometimes ( on newer switches) it is labeled "A" for accesory.

Thank you for responding.
After going through all wiring and making sure all is correctly applied to their locations. I still cannot get the engine to turn over.

Is there supposed to be voltage at the positive terminal on the ignition coil coming from the grey wire out of the CD unit? I have a reading of 0 volts at that terminal at all times.

The grey wire is definitely supposed to have voltage when the distributor signals the CD box to discharge the capacitors. If you have no voltage at any time, there is the cause of no spark. Check to see that this wire is not broken

As I wrote before, the red wire to the CD box powers the condensers and should be connected to the red terminal on the terminal board. There should also be a thin red wire coming from the battery side of the starter solenoid. This supplies power to the capacitors until the engine is running and the alternator is producing enough juice. This wire runs from the solenoid to the circuit breaker at the bottom of the terminal strip. Of course, if the circuit breaker is tripped, then the engine will neither crank over nor fire. If it is a steel can, it will reset itself, but if it is a black plastic one, you must push the small button on on side to reset it.

If the replacement CD box was either new or a known working one, then check the wiring harness for broken red wires or missing connections. Try running a 14 gauge jumper wire from the battery side of the solenoid to the red terminal on the terminal strip. Check to see that the red wire to the CD box is not broken internally where it enters the CD box.

Then, re-check and be certain the points are grounded when they close. If they do not go to ground, then no signal to dump the capacitors will be delivered to the CD box and no voltage will be sent to the grey wire on the coil.

I believe I have determined the cause of no spark. Any websites or part numbers so can purchase a new Motorola CD module?
Should I go ahead and change the coil with a new module?
