Engine has set up for 6 mos., went to start yesterday, and nothing; battery is fully charged, I can turn the flywheel by hand; when I turn the key, it gives a 1/2 second shot at turning, but sounds bogged down, then nothing; the teeth from the starter stick , and when I manually turn the flywheel, they pop down. I don't want to drop the money for starter, solenoid, or both until I make sure that's what the problem is. How do I test the starter and solenoid ?? Any help is gretly appreciated

You can verify what is causing your problem with the "Outboard wont start" in the Engine FAQ section, Troyo.

You most likely have a corroded connection in the battery cables circuit.

Thanks JB, went through the list, and fixed it; was corrosion on some of the connections; glad I didn't drop the benjamins for a new starter
