I have a 1983 Johnson 70 HP and have a question about the fuel pump. There are three lines from the pump, one the gas coming in, two the gas going to the carbs and the third which goes to the bottom of the cylinders. I was wondering what the third line is for. Is it the cylinder check valve, can you check it and if bad does it drastically affect the way the engine runs?
Thanks

That line is what makes the pump work.A pressure pulse moves the diaphram making the pump pump
gas.

Is there anyway to check and make sure that it is working correctly?
Thanks
Martin

Re: 70 HP Johnson Fuel Pump

Remove the hose at the fuel pump end and blow down the pipe. If air passes through into the crankcase and there are no leaks at the hose all is well.
Prompts me to ask, why the question?
