I have a 1976 70 hp Evinrude that has just been rebuilt. It was rebuilt with OMC pistons and rings.I've been told the break in for OMC pistons is different than for some aftermarket pistons and I want to do it right. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Birdman

Birdman,

It would basically be the same as a new engine.

If I remember right, it goes something like this.

1. Double mix oil/gas (25:1 or two pints to six gallons.

2. Operate at idle only for first 20 minutes.

3. Operate at no more that 3000 rpm for another hour-varying speed periodically.

4. The next hour, short bursts of wide open are OK (not to exceed 30 seconds) and to get the boat on plane only. Do not exceed 3500 continuous.

5. The most important thing is the constant varying of speed.
