My engine has low hours, maybe 100 on it. The symptom was that it would start just fine and run for about 3 or 4 minutes and then quit. Stumbles, quits. I replaced the entire fuel path from the tank to the engine including line connectors and squeeze bulb, filter at the engine, etc. Bypassed the water separator filter just to eliminate it. NO CHANGE. Also replaced the fuel pump. No change. Am running 90 octane non-ethanol fuel with Seafoam additive. If I use the squeeze bulb I can keep it running. Restarts easily. Several mechanics baffled so far. Ran 1qt jug of fuel mixture thru it by inserting at the screen filter inlet short hose and ran for 20 min at 2500 rpm there. (!!) FINALLY replaced the portable fuel tank and the problem is gone. Seems like old tank (even though emptied and filled with fresh fuel) still had crud in it and a small air leak at the top of the pickup. Whew! Now the darn thing runs at 4000 rpm but at 5000 rpm it will soon drop to about half power and go back and forth between the normal full power and the retarded power level. What is this ? Common problem or not ?
