30 min in and a hook up... my buddy just about lost a foot but it was beached and back in the water in less than 5 min.... we had to help it back through the breakers then it got its second wind and swam away strong....

Hammerheads are cool. The only one I've ever seen swam right past our boat 40 mi. off N.C. It was tan/brown looking and enormous, about 14' and its dorsal and tail stuck 3' or more out of the water. It was hot and glass calm, midday and in the clear gulfstream water it was easy to see. It cruised slowly on the surface across the bow about 60 yrds out and turned to pass within 20' of our slowtrolling boat. It was surreal as it got larger as it got closer, the hammer looked 5+' wide, and it slowly descended after it passed the stern. I and my 2 friends were too awestruck to think of taking some pics, though the camera was on the helm :facepalm:

You should see what they do to a tarpon in Boca Grand.

7' is just a baby. It's not uncommon for them to be longer than the boat/kayak you're in.
