I just came into a Johnson 7.5 J8RCSS. E5208798(1980?)
I need to change the plugs and I have the numbers for Autolite and Champion plugs but I need to check the gap as the book I'm using says .035. (.030 is what the old plugs are gapped at)
Also, is there an air filter element? The box that would hold one is empty. (I don't think so, but I thought I would ask the experts.) One more thing, the fuel mix ratio too.

Thanks in advance for your time,
Mike

That is a 1980 Rope Start.
QL77JC4 (use the Champion Plug), and the gap I have is .030". .035" can improve trolling, so you can try that as well.
There's no filter on outboards, as there isn't any dust on the water. What you're seeing is the airbox for quieting the intake noise. On some outboards, the carb is jetted with the restriction of the air box in mind, so removing it can lead to problems.
Fuel ratio is 50:1 87 octane (actually 63+ if I remember right) gas to TC-W3 outboard oil. That works out to 1 pint of oil for 6 gallons of gas.

Those are good, solid outboards. They're finally discontinuing them next year.
