I recently took the lower unit from my 7.5 hp gamefisher so that I could check to see if the water pump looked to be intact. There did not seem to be water discharging (although I'm not sure where it is to discharge) and I attributed that to the motor's rough running and inability to accelerate. My two questions are:
1.) Where is the cooling water suppose to discharge

2.) How do you reassemble the lower unit/ shaft to be assured that both the drive shaft and the cooling water tube are in their proper locations?

As always you should be working from a service manual.
We need a model number to be sure who built the motor.
And to try to determine the year.
Some models have a row of relief holes on the leg.Water should mist out of these holes.
As far as assembly, depending on the model you may be able to insert the water tube in the upper connection and then be sure it makes the lower connection.
the drive shaft should go together fairly easily.A very thin coat of grease to fight corrision on the spline.
Too much grease will make it impossible to fully insert the shaft.
