I have a 7.5 hp Honda outboard that is an 1985 and has not been used in the past couple of years. It will start and run for about 30 seconds and then quit. By chokeing it will restart but only run for the same amount of time. It will not run on the choke or off the fuel line bulb. Could it be the fuel pump?

Howdy, Flatback.

Yes, it could be a fuel pump problem. It could also be a restriction somewhere in the fuel supply.

Disconnect the pump to carb line and put it in a plastic bottle. Spin her over. Does it pump strong squirts into the bottle?

No? Inspect tank vent and pickup for restrictions, fuel lines for restriction or air leaks.

Another possibility is heat. When the engine quits, check both spark plug wires for a hot, blue spark to the block.

Let us know what you find. Good luck. :)
