7.4l. MPI losing power

Idling out of the harbor my engine running at 1000 rpm drops unexpectedly to 500 or less for a second or three then run fines for 5 minutes and repeats. Temp oil fine and no alarms. Seems like fuel delivery to me but possibly spark plugs, fuel pump. I don't want to hunt and replace everything, so where to begin????? Boat 97 cruisers 3375 with twin 7.4l and bravo 3's

since it is an mpi, probably could check for any codes that the ecm registered during the fault. you would need to get a mechanic that has a code reader for the mercruisers though . . .

That would be my recommendation also, get a scan tool or the Diacom software and read the codes. If there's nothing in the codes, then old fashion troubleshoooting time, but without ruling out a flagged problem, you could be chasing your tail..
