My boat 1996 wellcraft 26 se excel 5000 lbs dry and empty. Factory prop is 17 1/4 x 25 pitch. motor runs 4200 to 4600 rpm which is just right.

What would happen if I change to a 18 1/4 x 19 pitch

Please be specific.

Thanks Steve

The boat is gonna jump out of the water and on to plane real fast :D

Then your gonna hit WOT well before you should

6" of pitch drop you will pick up 600 + rpm

I would thing your fuel use would go way UP

Everything Tommay's says is true except you will likely see about 1000 - 1200 RPM increase instead of 600, and he didn't mention that unless you keep a very close eye on the tach, engine parts may pass through the oil pan and the bottom of your boat when the engine blows. Why on earth are you considering dropping six inches of pitch when your engine rpm at WOT is already correct?

Re: 7.4 liter bravo II prop

Hi
I dont want to change from the 17 1/4 x 25 but I broke it last weekend and need to send it to be fixed if it can be. I just purchased the boat and have had it on the water a total of 1 hr. The rest of the time was consumed fixing the boat. I got an itch that really needs scratched before winter!! I figured that If I could get this other prop cheap enough I would buy it, use it once or twice before winter layup. Then I would keep it for just in case situations to get me off of the lake.

Other than an emergency prop to get you off the lake, I would not run very fast or very long. You will find the engine spins like nuts at very low speeds.
