I just picked up a 2004 2 stroke Johnson 6hp, thinking about useing it for a kicker on my boat. Never ran a kicked befor. So question is will it be enough for trolling.
Boat is a 2001 Trophy 1900 D/C. boat motor and fuel with out other gear is 2500, to 2600 lbs

Re: 6hp kicker

I move a 2500lb sailboat with a 5hp 4 stroke at about 5kt if there's a wind. I would imagine for trolling, and especially as a
backup "safety net", it should do fine. Mounting it will be key I'd think.

Re: 6hp kicker

I just picked up a Garelick fixed mount to install on the back of my powerboat. I plan to use the SB's 5 horser as a kicker on
it, since I store it in the garage anyway. Never hurts to have "back-up" when you leave home. And that way, if you do
encounter a problem, at least you're getting yourself back, as opposed to waiting on SeaTow or the kindness of strangers.

I'll be interested in how you rig it for controls, etc. as I have a similar boat--like are you going to hook up steering, gears and throttle to the kicker, or just run it by hand? or "autopilot"?

Re: 6hp kicker

Just going to put on a aux steering linkage and use the tiller for the throttle
