6HP Johnson what year?

i've got an early eighties or late seventies johnson, how can i determine what year and model this is? is there a tag somewhere on this thing? i really haven't looked to hard for any ID tags but any help would be appreciated.

Plate should be on the transom bracket.

If plate is missing you might find the number on a core plug on the engine. It's on mine but does not seem to be guaranteed

The data plate should be on the transom bracket, on the port side of the motor. If it is missing, look for a "freeze plug" on the top, rear portion of the powerhead. There should be a number stamped it it, which will be the serial number. Post that here and someone will probably be able to help. Be aware, however, that some motors have had the powerhead replaced, and that the one installed may not be of the same year as the the original.
