Hi
I need a bit more advice about my little 1975 evinrude 6.
When I refitted the carb I noticed that in the top of the carb near a blanking
plate there are 3 holes, one into the slow speed needle casting, and another
2 along side.
One of these holes is open and the other two have lead plugs, should all 3
holes be plugged?
Question #2 is how do you set the gap between the coils and flywheel?
Is it just trial and error or is there a certain way to do this.
I have enjoyed working on this engine during the dark winter nights, better
than watching TV (Ice road truckers is a must though):)
Thinking about getting another outboard to strip rebuild !
Oh yes one other thing do they still make the Evinrude blue paint?
Thinking back I think my 88 mercury monarch was about the same color!
I await your reply oh wise ones.
Thank you
Ray.

the base of the coil, lines up the boss on the mounting bracket. there is not setting other than that. the hole is an overflow, do not plug. the mounting boss is marked with the red arrow

Correct- 1 is open (facing straight up), the other 2 are plugged.
Line the edge of the coil up exactly with the flat part of the mounting lugs. Don't let them stick out any further on either side, or the flywheel will hit them. Rotate the flywheel by hand after you get everything together to make sure nothing is hitting the flywheel or that the magneto plate isn't getting hung up

Thank you both !
You are right, about the magnito sticking thats just what was happening.
When I pulled the starter cord the magnito plate went part way round with
the flywheel.
Will line coils up as shown and leave carb hole open.
Thank you gentlemen.
