69 merc 800 no reverse

Hey guys for some reason my 69 Mercury isn't reversing it does seem to have forward. I did change the impeller and I don't know for sure if it had reverse after that or not. If I put it in neutral prop spins both ways if I put it in reverse prop is difficult to spin to the right but clicks when spun to the left please help

Here is how it works.-----In forward it locks one way and clicks the other way.-----Neutral it spins both ways,---In reverse it locks both ways.------Is that how yours works ?

No spins one way locked the other in reverse

Anyone at all on this? Ill just recap, had it in the water wouldn't come off trailer in reverse..seemed to not have reverse. If I put it in reverse prop locks both ways, in neutral prop is free spinning in forward prop locks one way clicks the other. I appreciate your help

Did you have F-N-R before the impeller change?

I guess Im not 100 percent sure because the boat was new to me.
