Heya guys i have been working on a 1969 55hp jonson hydro electric shift and am having problems with reinstaling the shift unit. i just cant seem to get the solenoids with the wire shaft and valve on the bottom all seated right. i have tried snapping the metal valve onto the unit and instaling and i have tried seating the valve then instaling the rest. either way i have no neutral or reverse. just wondering if there is a special way that this can be done

When the solinoid stem is propery seated into the pump valve, the solinoid plunger should be flush with the top of the solinoid recess. Did you have the pump out of the gearcase?

Yeah we had the whole thing out not knowing what we were getting into. now with the metal nipple valve conected to the actuator rod it is very dificult to get it seated right.

Is the pump fully seated with the snap-ring back in place?

yes it's just the nipple valve at the end of the actuator rod must be flipping sideways or something cause it is a very tight fit and it was hard enough to get it into place by itself but then we realized it had to be connected to the actuator rod first. everything else is as it was when we took it apart.
