I have a 69 85HP model #85993E with the electric shift. I do not have controls and will just wire to an ignition switch, choke button and toggle switches for shifting.
My question is in regards to the Purple/green wire that comes off the "diode and lead assembly", to the shift cable connector, through the blocking diode, and to the output of the ignition switch.
Is the purpose of the diode/lead assembly to rectify ac voltage solely for the purpose of supplying the shift solenoids? Couldn't I delete the diode/lead assembly, as there is a separate rectifier, and tap off of the ignition ouput for shifting?
