Kinda of a stupid question but this is my first motor with a rectifier and I was wondering what its main functions are. I know its like an alternator but not sure exactly. Also, does it recharge the battery and if so should there be another wire running back to the battery or does it recharge thru the battery cable?
Its a 1967 40hp Super Seahorse. Thanks for your time.
Jeff

The rectifier converts AC Voltage from the motor to DC Voltage to recharge the battery - the charge is returned through the battery cable. A voltage meter on the battery terminals will tell you if it is working as the voltage should increase with the motor running.

I dont think the 40 in 67 had an altenator so it should not have a rectifier. some had a generator with a voltage regulator set up. they worked kinda the first year or so then we called them problematic rather than electromatic.
good luck and keep posting
