I have a 60hp Evinrude that has an interesting glich. When accelerating or running at high speed, it sometimes makes a "clunk" almost as though it has hit something. It doesn't do it all the time, and doesn't do it at all at low speed, but does seem to do it more when it is getting up to speed, or under a load.

It doesn't shake at all, but you can feel the clunk throughout the boat. Maybe something is slipping?

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Howdy, Kruzer. My first thought is to check shift linkage to be sure it is going ALL the way into Forward. Next, I would question the prop hub. Put your spare prop on and see if it still happens.(No spare prop!!!??? GET ONE!!)

Good luck, and let us know what you find.

Red sky. . . .
JB

Thanks JB

I wouldn't have thought that it wasn't going into forward all the way. I had to change the controls after the last trip out, and I was monkeying around with the control box and cables. I bet I don't have it adjusted quote right. I'll find out though!

(I got a spare prop before the boat ever got wet - If you're prepared it never happens)

I've owned 2 OMC's (1 18hp, 1 25) and both had clutch dog/gear problems. I think if the fluid change and cable adjust doesn't help that may be it. The teeth of the dog and slots in the gears get a subtle "ramping" to them that really can't be repaired except by replacement.
