What a great forum you folks have here. Very informative and interesting rebuilds. I have gained alot of insight on the Starcraft brand boats and figured I would create another ripple in the works by joining your group to possibly shed some info on my rebuild and in turn keeping my Starcraft floating (so to speak) with your great combined information.:) Best regards Louie.

Not sure it's a ripple as much as a tidal wave :D This could drive up the prices of Starcrafts worldwide and make them as common as a Carolina skiff on the NC coast  Pics we need pics. Steven

Slow down there partner, you can't call yourself a member until you post some pics. Then there is the matter of council approval, credit check, initiation fee, pre-paid first year dues and the Tattoo.

Re: 66 Falcon pics in the process.

Re: 66 Falcon pics in the process.

Thank you Bob, Capt, and Motor I am in the process of figuring out the file size recommendations to insert my pics, but I have put the old boat into storage for the winter and the only pics I have generated are huge in size, but eventually I will conquer that feat. In responce to the tatoo Motor, my thoughts are Whitney Houston as a mermaid. Keep up the good work guys.

Nice...very nice. I was really looking for a 14 footer when I got mine, but when I saw the Jet Star, I fell in love. I wouldn't have gone any bigger though.

Falcon, open a photobucket account (it's free) download your pics and resize to 640x480 (makes Bob happy) and download to Iboats. As far as the Tattoo, it's got to have Starcraft in it somewhere:D Then you have to get your robe and sacrifice a fiberglass boat at one of our meetings LOL or at least that what the non-believers think

Nice rig falcon14...and welcome to the club:D Feel free to ask any questions you may have along the way, we've made lots of mistakes that you can avoid by asking LOL.

BTW what size/year is that Merc you've got hanging off the transom?

Looking forward to seeing some more photos when ya post them:)

Merc info.

Merc info.

Hello Angler, and thank you for the welcome. The engine is a 66 350S 35hp Kiekhaefer short shaft, according to the history I have obtained from the previous owner A.K.A (Dad) it was purchased at the same time as the Falcon itself. He signed the boat, motor and trailer over to me, due to medical issues that made it tough for him launching and loading the boat. I had installed an electric winch on the trailer for him, but he said it was just to much for him to handle. That has not stopped him from fishing though, tackle box and pole in hand, he is usually in the boat and seated, before I even kick the motor over.
He has never had any major problems with the old boat, it has always gotten us there and back. The floor was replaced a few years back, due to old age, but the transom, seams and rivets are in off the showroom floor condition. Every spring a fresh set of plugs are thrown into the motor, fuel tank is topped off and a touch of the key and we are off and running.
The challenge I had was removing the multi- coats of paint that was applied by spray can to the exterior of the boat. I even found a spare can under the seat that was used for cosmetic touch-ups. He meant well, but "boy" did my orbital sander get a workout. I gave the spare can back to him and told him to use it to freshen up some of his patio furniture, he got a kick out of that.
I still have a ways to go on little cosmetic repairs, but I guess that is why we are all here and enjoying this shared information. Best regards & keep um floatin. Falcon14

Welcome Falcon, Like you (I suspect) the TATTOO requirement was a new one to me. All in good fun.

Would love to see more detailed pics of your boat so I can compare to mine. My work has slowed to a crawl with winter settling in to northern Mississippi. :D Frost this morning.

Winter Blues upon us.

Winter Blues upon us.

Thank you Banana & Medic. Sadly the wife will not let me keep the boat in the nice heated garage during the winter months, so I can tinker (Just not fair) :( I guess that is just a fact of life, here in Maine. No matter how much we explain that it is not just a boat, it's an investment, they just will not fall for it Haha!
I am planning to pull the bench seats for reapholstering sometime soon, weather permitting some weekend. We have some folks in the area that redo convertible tops, covers etc... that are more than willing to create a little extra space in my wallet, and Git-r-done.
You folks have a great day and keep the information flowing.

Re: 66 Falcon (Hand-me-down)

Falcon that Merc sounds like a real dream outboard, I'm hoping my '70 Kiekhaefer Merc 80hp will be as reliable as yours after a little work and diligent maintenance. Gotta love an old Merc:D

Pretty cool that the Falcon was your dad's and you're keeping it in the family, I hope to do the same and pass it on to my two sons(they may have to fight over it).

It may be a better idea to keep the boat outside of that "blasting area" anyways LOL :D

Re: 66 Falcon (Hand-me-down)

Falcon, I'm just starting out here also. You've got a nice boat and a pleasant project ahead. I'm already liking mine. Not too much of a pain, and I love the strength and structure they put into these hulls.

After going through this thread, I wandered off onto another and found what I thought would be under the splash well, holding the wood, plenty of screws.

I'll be working on mine through out the winter, being in the southern most part of NC. I hope to see you hard at it, come Spring.

Bob
