I need to know how to take my distributor apart, are there clips and if so where would they be located??

There should be screws holding the cap on if it is the thunderbolt ignition. Plug wires screw in and out. The distributor is belt drive. Good luck...............

thunderbolt ignition??? There's a ring that holds the cap on but more what i'm after is how to disassemble. Apparently the rotor and shaft are one piece???

yeah, it will be one piece. The rotor is a disc with slots in it for the spark to jump through. The shaft and disc are mated together, and I do not remember if they come apart.
