Have a 65 West Bend 50hp Model#50531. It's new to me and having trouble starting. When I pour a little fuel/oil in the carb fires right up and runs fine. It has electric start and I'm wondering if I'm following all the starting steps in order. Thanks

Are you pushing the key in to choke it. I assume it has an electric choke.

I thought pulling the button on the throttle was choke? I must not be pushing in the key.

Mine is 1967 and you push the key in. There are three positions on the ignition key. Off, On and start. Start is spring loaded and will go back to on when you release the key. When the switch is in the on position when you push the key in you should hear a click. With the cowling off you will see the butterflies close when this happens. Try this and with the motor in neutral advance the throttle as far forward as it will go which is usually only about an inch.

The button on the control box is there so that you can advance the throttle while keeping the boat in neutral.
