65 johnson ran well now ?

engine starts right up. when i advance throttle. engine stalls. I let nieghbor use boat he said he adjust throttle cable to go faster. i know she would cruise full throttle 5500 rpm. now i'm balled help please.

i thnik i would ask him to show you what he adjusted, thinking it was the throttle cable. did he screw with the throttle linkage,throwing the linc n sinc out. carbs. who know what he did. asking him may be a short cut to the problem. if not we start at square one, and thru the whole trouble shooting. what is the year and model #

1972 yes he turned dial on linkage i search post here shifted throttle to full disconnected linkage then put in nuetral made sure linkage when on post with out adjust ments saw it was good 2 inches shy si i turned it to it was perfect.. then restarted engine and it throttles up. seems fine except she is idleing at about 1200 rpm's/usally she idles about 600rpms.

also plugs were l77jvc4 he put new plugs but they are ql77jvc4 should i replace them woth l77jvc4. local marine parts out of l77jvc4 only have ql77jvc4. is this part of problem?
