I've been struggling with several little "bugs" on my 1965 merc 65 hp outboard. Tried this and that, had a so-called repairman work on it, all to not much availe. Then I found this great site of iboats.com and the fantastic and very helpful people in the forum, you have all helped me greatly. I followed the guys advice and found 2 auto parts stores in town that carry motor parts. Looking in their parts books today, I found I was ripped off by the "repairman" and the guy I got it from. I found parts missinf fron the ends of the plug wires where they fasten into the dist. cap, and the wires look about 40 years older than me, which makes them antique. Ordered new plug wires set(complete) and new points and condensor. Almost willing to bet a steak dinner that when I get it all back together, it runs pretty good or like it should. Thanks again to all you for the suggestions you gave me in the short past. :D

G'day marvc. Better hurry up, I have two of these motors and they are heading to the dump next week. Make your offer but I reckon the freight charge from Oz to USA may be excessive. good luck.

Whaley, Dont junk those motors.Ill bet you can sell them as parts motors down there.Just put them on ebay, describe as honestly as possible
I think you will get plenty of bids.
Packing and shipping can be expensive but
arent parts pretty hard to come by over there?

Whaley,
are your "junk" motors in somewhat maybe in a rebuildable state? I may be interested in some parts for spares, and for instalation on mine if some parts are still servicable. If not to much trouble could you check into some different shipping rates for different weights and sizes of packages? I would possibly be interested if not to drastic a price. Is it just my imagination, or is mercury motors not that a reliable a motor and too expensive to repair, or are they actually a fairly decent motor? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks, and have a good day. :)

G'Day, The motors were both running when they came in, one motor has pretty bad corrosion, the other has a water leak. they are short shaft and have bronze props. Y2, I live in country SA. any motors that are more than 25 years old I dont worry to repair. this is not a selling forum but if anyone is interested I will part with them for A$150.00 EA email orca@yp-connect.net
