Yes it sounds like that is the problem, very common.I have read where guys will clean up the leaky area, put the plug in and then load up the plug area with RTV. Very little water pressure exerted there. Or do it the right way and install new gasket. PB blast all the bolts, let soak, then gently remove them, heavy corrosion probability and snapped heads of bolts are also common. If they snap usually there is enough thread that you can grab the studs with a new pair of original vise grips, not craftsmen, and resoak, then remove.

Replace it as there is about 10-12psi of water pressure on gasket @ WOT. This is a OEM item only and here is the part # 27-31798, so you dont waste time looking for a aftermarket.

Re: 65 90hp inline 6cly

thanks, i think i will try sealer or jb weld as i read in one thread. i'm jus glad my engine is not shot.i'm also haveing trouble with the coil wireing i checked with test light and i have fire on 3 of the 4 wires is this normal or should they be just fire on the postive side of the coils. does the 65 90 horse have dual points , i removed the distruber cap and didnt see any points. before i removed the engine from another boat it ran fine, now it sounding like it is runnining on 3 cly's and the only way i can get it to fire up is hook a hot wire to the postive side of one of the coils, guess that is why it is hitting on just 3. i need the correct procedure for testing coils i suppose.
