Ive got a 62 Gale buccaneer, model 5D20B, 5 hp. Can anybody tell me where I can get ahold of a parts list or service manual for it? Somebody once told me that its bacically the same under the cover as a 62 johnson sea horse. This was my grandfathers motor and I never remember him using it. My dad cant either. Why, I have no idea. He used an elgin 2 or 3 hp with a manual wind starter. Id love to have a dollar for everytime I got hit in the head with the end of the rope! lol Any help or information you guys can give me on this Gale would be much appreciated. thanks

As you probably know the Gale division of OMC built motors for any retailing group capable of paying the contract for large orders. So you should be able to find parts motors under many different names.

The early postwar Gales resembled the other OMC products only insofar as sharing some common accessories such as magneto systems. By the time your motor was built in '62 the Gales were often basically preceding year model Johnson/Evinrude models derated a little for horsepower. BUT---they weren't always identical part for part! That's where <Somebody once told me that its basically the same under the cover as a 62 Johnson sea horse>
can get you in trouble.

Hopefully 'FR'---who answers questions here and is a Gale expert---will see this thread and respond with more detailed knowledge than I possess. Tom

That pretty much says it. They are similar, but not totally the "same as". The powerhead is different. But just as good. It doesn't have a removeable cylinder head or a thermostat. Otherwise, it is mostly the same, with a different hood. Very good motors.
