Today is the 61st anniversery of the Ringing Bros. circus fire in Hartford Ct that killed 169 people and wounded more than 600. They were in Hartford for 2 days 7/5 and 7/6 my dad attened the 7/5 1944 show at the age of 9 with his family, it haunts him to this day. There are some good web-sites for the fire. Today we attened the unveiling of the memorial for the victims at the site of the fire it was too long coming and sad as hell. There is a excellent book called "The day the clowns cried" the author came up with the name after a photograph of Emmit Kelly with a pail of water running toward the fire and it looks like he was crying. The big top burned quickly because of the waterproofing cocktail 6000 gallons of white gas mixed witn 1800 lbs parafin wax.....here is a link web page
