I need to replace the battery on my RIB which has a 60hp Tohatsu. The old battery was a 12 v 55amp - would it be ok to replace it with a 12v 85 amp which I have available?

Re: 60hp Tohatsu

Yes, it will work, with a couple of caveats.

Must be an ancient motor, if it truly is a 60 hp. Current US-market Tohatsu/Nissan motors are either 50 or 70, not 60 hp.

As long as the available amps is adequate to crank, you're OK. More available is not a problem. We do not recommend car batteries for boats, as the vibration is hard on them, so stick with marine-rated batteries for any boat. Likewise, higher-horsepower motors, and all TLDI motors should not be cranked with flooded-cell deep-cycle batteries, as the voltage drop during cranking is a bit too much.
