Good morning,
I've ordered a new pontoon boat with a 2005 Merc 60hp 4 cycle Bigfoot outboard. I'm considering having an SC1000 SmartCraft system monitor installed. Can anyone advise which parameters the outboard communicates to the monitor?
From the info on the Merc Website:
Oil Temp
Oil Pressure
Engine Diagnostics
Batt voltage
Engine Alarms
Fuel Flow
Hour Meter
RPM
Engine Guardian

Anything I've missed?

Thanks,
John

I've left my manual in the boat (100mls away) so I can't confirm your list but it sounds about right.

Also, now that Brunswick own Navman, all the readouts can be displayed on any navman FF or GPS screen via nmea interface.

I didn't opt for the smartcraft, too expensive. Without smartcraft, oil temp & pressure are still monitored with an audible alarm, same with water temp. Engine gaurdian is still active, RPM active, voltage can still be read via a cheap guage and an hr meter via the ignition switch. The only thing you miss out on is the fuel flow readings. Diagnostics and codes are still available to the servicing tech.

Aldo

Thanks Aldo,
I was interested in being able to monior "real time" oil temp, oil pressure and hour meter information. The Mercry website lists the SC1000 as an approx $300 option. I might just wait and install at a later date. Is this something someone with reasonable mechanical/electrical skills can install themselves?

When I bought my package (Dec 2004) the Smartcraft was offered to me for an extra $1200!!!!!!!!

This sucks big time, we get bent over and reemed on marine stuff down here. Rant over.

I believe it's simply 'plug and go' into the 3 pin connector next to the ignition switch then all the readings are viewed via the tachometer which has a multi-function screen built in. As for the motor itself, it's all there as standard. All you need is the ability to access the computer - Smartcraft :) .

Aldo

The SC1000 has many different options to display the data, one of those options is the tach (or speedo) with the digital display. The display you are referring too is the standard package.

Maybe that accounts for the price difference - dunno.

Check this out, it explains what gauges can or can't be used:
http://www.mercurymarine.com/uploads/images/1222/SC_features_chart.jpg
