What is your engine s/n?

Probably just a case of the drive gear shaft being dirty and requiring a drop of lube.

If you main manually pulling a starter rope and the starter solenoid just 'clicks' then you have either a low battery or poor connection somewhere.

Clean, sand, ALL cable ends, postive, negetive and the starter cable.

Make sure the battery is fully charged, take it somewhere to have it 'load tested' with a real carbon pile load tester, not one of those fancy volt meters, they do not load the battery at all and have a very high failure rate, claiming a battery good when in fact it is very low capacity.

It is also possible to have poor contacts inside the solenoid. To test grab your trusty battery jumper cables. Just use one cable, clamp onto the battery + and strike the starter side of the solenoid. If the starter spins but trying the solenoid clicks, then replace the solenoid.
