HI
I have a 1887 60 hp VRO and it will not idle or switch gears without stalling when placed in the water. When I run it in my driveway with muffs it works fine. I can shift gears forward and reverse numerous times and throttle up and back to idle and no stalling. But when I place it in a water at my local fishing lake it stalls when coming off high idle every time, if I try to slap in gear and high throttle it sometimes works but mostly stalls as well. It is so annoying.
I have had it to my mechanic several times, carbs have been removed cleaned and linkage checked.
Any ideas as to why this happens?
thanks
Don

Re: 60HP Johnson VRO

what are your idle rpms. it will run fine on muffs, because there is not any back pressure on the exhaust, exiting the prop. when you submerge the prop, you then have back pressure, so your idle has to be adjusted and fined tuned in the water, and in gear. it is a very irriatating when they tune the motor on muffs, rather than in the water.

Re: 60HP Johnson VRO

Thanks for the info, I am unsure what my RPMS as I don't have a tack, I have seen some other postings which discuss the stator may be causing the issue of stalling at idle and gear changes. Is this a possibility as well?
Thanks
