60hp Johnson doesnt run in water

Hi I have a 1970 60hp John model 60ESL70D runs good out of the water with hoses and earmuff on but when I put it the lake she starts runs for 2-3 sec. and dies I pull it out of the lake start it right on the boat ramp it starts and runs good, what good is a motor if you cant run it in the water can anybody help me with thanks very much Marcel

You're right...that is very strange. Is your engine connected to a remote fuel tank or one that's mounted in the boat? I'd make certain your engine has an adequate fuel supply... Check the basics first!<br />Good luck...Walt
