60 second WOTs during breakin Tohatsu

As my motor (9.8) makes its way north from Tampa on the Fed Ex truck, I anticipate the break-in and preview the on-line manual.

Between 2 hours and 10, one minute WOTs are "allowed" every 10 minutes. Are these allowed or encouraged?

It sounds like they know some will find WOT irresistible and they're trying to accommodate that while limiting the damage. Or, are these spurts at WOT good for the engine?

So, in a nutshell, should I do them as often as "allowed" or less if I don't feel like it? What's best for the motor?

Thanks.

Doesn't really matter. There are two primary objectives of breaking in an engine. The first is to get even wear across the piston ring by avoiding running at the same speed for a hours at a time. The second reason is solely for the manufacturers benefit and that is that if something is wrong with the engine and it shows up at a low RPM there is less likelihood of serious damage occurring. IE It's cheaper for the manufacturer to correct.

Thanks, that's helpful to know. I'll vary the speeds more than I might have thought to do.
