Re: 60 HP Mercury alarms
Yes the beep-beep-beep is low oil warning. A constant beeeeeeeeeep is overheat warning. Could be a couple of things gwsmith.

Sensor - mounted in bottom of oil tank. Disconnect two wires from sensor and connect ohmmeter to wires from sensor. If tank is 3/4 full or more the ohmmeter should read open circuit. If not then either sensor is bad (not likely) or float magnet inside tank has come loose (common). See next. To check sensor you have to remove it from the tank. It's held in by one screw on the underside of the tank. PITA to get to but easy to remove. Once the sensor is out, measure across leads with ohmmeter again and should read open circuit if good. If you have a magnet, try placing it to the side of the sensor nearest the wires. Ohmmeter should read closed circuit or short.

Float magnet - THere is a float inside the oil tank that travels up and down with the oil level. A ring shaped magnet is attached to this float, and this magnet activates the sensor to warn of low oil. If the magnet falls off the float it settles on the bottom of the tank so the sensor thinks the oil level is low. No fix that I know of other than replaceing the tank. If this is the case just disconnect the two wires from the sensor and check your oil level visually.
