60 hp Merc or Yamaha?

I am on a lake with a 60 hp limit and want to water ski. I have heard that Merc's have more oomph than Yamaha's of the same hp(both 2 strokes). (I like the Yamaha for it's reliability) But, is the Merc significantly more powerful out of the hole?

They are both very good and reliable engines. The Merc seems to have a stronger lower unit.<br />The rule of thumb in choosing between brands is which one gives the best local service. Any brand can break down, which dealer will get you up and running the fastest.
