I'm looking to put a new motor on my 16ft 86 bass tracker flat bottom I was looking for any input on this match up it would be very much appreciated I'm concerned on the weight factor and if it should be enough power as well. Hopefully someone else has already made this pair up also. Thanks in advance

I had a 16' G3 at my place for a few years, it had a Yamaha 60/40 and it worked very well. It was a bare hull model though, very small platform up front and nothing else, so it was light. Some of the Tracker models have a lot of stuff inside that adds weight. That motor may not have enough power for the boat if it's heavy and you add a couple people.

A friend has a model more like yours with a 100/65 on it, it does OK.

I used to rent a 20' John years ago and ran it with my 9.9 McCullough outboard. Ran out real well.....didn't have any instrumentation but plane out was quick and it was fast enoughj to beat me up pretty good in a moderate chop. Nice thing about Johns and since you said flat bottom I am assuming you mean John Boat, is the they are light and plane out easily. I think the pump and extra weight cost you about 25% in hp. Then there's the drag to slow you down.

Personally I never ran a jet on a John, but I don't see why your rig wouldn't run out nicely. Potential problem might be planing out but if you redistribute the weight in the boat you could find the sweet spot between speed and performance.
